Neugebauer Statement on House Passed Border Crisis Bills

Statement

Date: Aug. 1, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Randy Neugebauer (R-TX) released the following statement after voting in support of H.R. 5230, a border crisis supplemental bill, and H.R. 5272, a bill to prohibit President Obama from taking executive action to authorize new deferred action status or issue new work authorizations under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:

"President Obama continues to fail to secure the border and his policies are only prolonging the crisis he has created. While the Democrat-controlled Senate has left town, the House stayed and got our work done. This bill is a first step that addresses our most immediate challenges on the southern border, by increasing security operations and making it easier to return those who enter our country illegally back to their home countries as quickly as possible.

"Instead of sending a blank check to the President, the House plan reimburses Texas for Governor Perry's bold leadership in activating the Texas National Guard to address the crisis the President has ignored. The President's unprecedented failure and refusal to secure our border and enforce our laws has made it more dangerous for communities across Texas who deserve better. It's long past time for Senate Democrats and President Obama to change course and do their job to address this crisis."
